    Javier Thellaeche

When he reached his late 50s and many of his friends and colleagues were beginning to slow down and retire, Javier decided to start a new life, travelling as much as possible and exploring other latitudes.

Having co-founded the Bolivian Mountain Guides Association in 1982, Javier went on to train as a professional mountain guide (Hochtourenführer) under the German Alpine Club between 1983 and 1985, before completing his IFMGA qualification in 2005. Javier has amassed over 40 years of experience climbing mountains in Bolivia, as well as over 20 years of guiding tours across South America and Nepal, including mountaineering, rock climbing, volcano, trekking, 4x4, mountain biking and kayak expeditions.

Javier is a skilled and patient guide and is happy leading mountaineering climbs up to TD, ice climbing up to WI5 and rock climbing up to 6b.
