The Seven Summits journey is an amazing expedition experience, not only in terms of mountaineering but also the overall travel and opportunity to experience different cultures and environments around the world.
We have helped many people to achieve this goal and both our CEO, Guy Cotter, and several of our lead guides have completed their personal Seven Summits. The original founders of Adventure Consultants, Rob Hall and Gary Ball, completed the Seven Summits in seven months in 1990! This was the Mount Kosciuszko version—a first at the time.
Talk to our team about how we can make your Seven Summits journey a reality. We have several pathways available to suit your timeframe and budget.
STEP 1
Introductory Mountaineering Course
It's important to start with the development of robust technical mountaineering skills. From mastering snow, rock, and ice climbing to honing rope handling, glacier travel, and crevasse rescue skills, a solid foundation is crucial. While some of these skills you'll learn along the way, we strongly recommend that if you haven't undergone a mountaineering instruction course, consider it your initial step.
STEP 2
Kilimanjaro and Elbrus
Kilimanjaro and Elbrus are good starting points for your first Seven Summits peaks. The expeditions can be completed back-to-back in June, allowing you to complete two of the summits within a month.
STEP 3
Aconcagua
Aconcagua is the next best step in your progression to the Seven Summits. It will be your first 'big mountain', expedition style peak. While not technically difficult, conditions can be tough and your experience on Aconcagua will put you in a good position to tackle the more challenging climbs to come.
STEP 4
Mount Vinson
Antarctica's highest peak Mount Vinson is the most remote of the Seven Summits and involves some long days with heavy packs, sled hauling and using fixed lines. Many climbers benefit from an additional mountaineering instruction course prior to undertaking this climb that focuses on learning and/or refreshing these skills. The more prepared you are, the better your chance of success!
