Bio
Tendi Sherpa comes to our New Zealand Guiding Team with a wealth of experience in expedition climbing around the world. Originally from Khembalung, a remote village in Makalu Barun National Park in Nepal, Tendi was introduced to trekking and mountain guiding at a young age. Following in his father's footsteps, Tendi achieved qualifications in guiding, initially from the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management and later achieving the Diploma in Mountain Guiding, endorsed by the IFMGA. He continues to build up his qualifications with ongoing training in mountain rescue, including first aid and longline helicopter rescue training.
Tendi has climbed extensively around the world and his impressive expedition resume includes 11 summits of Mount Everest! When he is not climbing, Tendi spends time working for non-profit social organisations that focus on bringing education to the people of Nepal, where his tireless work has seen the development and provision of French and English language classes to some remote villages of Nepal. He is also an active member of the Nepal Mountain Guides Association and has volunteered as an instructor to teach mountain rescue, rock climbing and ice climbing to other aspiring Nepalese mountain guides.
