Possibly the most exotic mountaineering location on earth, Carstensz Pyramid in Western Papua is a large limestone escarpment jutting out of the rainforest. Coveted as the highest peak in Australasia, Carstensz Pyramid is the most remote of the Seven Summits.
Whilst travel in this region of the world is often problematic, the rewards of the adventure into this wild corner of the globe are substantial. Unlike any other peak you climb, this expedition will enable you to redefine adventure.

Carstensz appears as a mysterious and relatively unvisited climbing objective, flanked with glaciers and rising like a shark’s fin out of the mist of the jungle.
This expedition has the attributes of a classic rock climb combined with a rare cultural experience. It is a journey of discovery and achievement, and most likely your best chance of experiencing this part of the world and standing on the summit of this exotic peak.

You should have a high level of fitness to be prepared for our long summit day.
Due to the uncertain nature of travel in West Papua, we must be prepared for changes in itinerary which may include trekking into or out from the mountain, if necessary. A regular, strenuous programme should be followed for several months to achieve the level of fitness required. We suggest a programme tailored to mountaineering such as those from Uphill Athlete.
You should be a proficient rock climber, with the ability to climb routes up to Australian Grade 16/US 5.8 in your mountaineering boots. Experience using a jumar will be beneficial, however your guide will instruct you in their use before the climb starts.
Prior experience at high altitude is recommended but not mandatory.
